Wife’s name is Mukti Roy. God gave us twin daughters. Mary is the older, Noami is younger. They suffer from a speech impediment and Mary struggles more. Mukti’s family couldn’t afford school fees for the 11th grade. A pastor said there is a free school in Dhaka you can attend. It turned out that it was a Christian school that only taught the Bible. There were others from her community and from her family who attended. Soon she found out it was not a normal or traditional school with the regular academic subjects, and she hesitated about continuing. A good number of her community members dropped out, realizing that it was a “conversion school.” They returned home and let it be known what that school was really about.
Meanwhile Mukti was getting interested in the Bible subjects, memorizing verses and prayers. Although she was a little uneasy about the situation, her relative (a girl just a little older, who had already accepted Jesus) at the school assured her that she would like it more and more.
When she came home after six months for the holidays, the family questioned her about the school. She concealed the nature of the school and the fact that she had accepted Jesus. She returned to the school. By the time she came home for the second holiday, after one year, the family was clearly on to the situation and determined they would get her married to a Hindu man to fix it. Getting wind of their plans, Mukti decided she would never marry a Hindu because it would mean leaving Jesus and she would never do that. At the same time, she noticed Mohesh, also a convert from Hinduism, and she liked him. When she arrived home, her older sister’s husband locked her up in his house when she said she would not marry a Hindu man. There was no way for her to contact Mohesh. Fortunately, her other sister’s husband took pity on her and freed her. She fled her family and married Mohesh.
Mohesh was born in a Hindu family. His mother died when he was 5, and his father married another woman. He has a younger brother and four stepsiblings. His father’s sister’s husband was the pastor of a Lutheran church. He made a point of telling young Mohesh about Christ and when he visited his uncle, they took him to church (against his will) and Mohesh did not like that.
When he entered his teenage years, he began to think about what the two religions offered and saw that Hinduism gave no promise of eternal life like Christianity and it was just a bunch of rules. By the time he graduated from 10th grade (2000) he had decided to become a Christian and take baptism.
Immediately after his baptism, the Hindu village put pressure on his father, “Mohesh cannot live in the village, because he converted to Christianity.” And so, his whole family rebuffed him and ostracized him. He couldn’t eat with them or sleep in their houses. If he came to his home village, he could be killed. His own family members actually loved him, but the committee of elders threatened to do terrible things to the family if they allowed Mohesh to return. His only contact with his family was by phone for about 15 years. Now, 15 years later, he can make very brief visits to his family in Shetabgonj a few times a year. His father listens to him share about Jesus Christ.
After his baptism in 2002 at 18 years of age, he wanted to learn more about Jesus and the Bible. His uncle suggested that he enroll in a one-year Bible training provided by the Lutheran mission. After that course, he got a job with Christian Life Bangladesh (Campus Crusade for Christ), where he served one year.
Then he served with some Korean Presbyterians for 8 years, first as an evangelist, then as a pastor in Dhaka. He left because he didn’t like their system (common to many missions) which required making a certain number of converts in a certain amount of time. It leads to making false reports. He became a pastor for the Church of God mission in Lalmonirhat at an old established church with about 100 members (pretty large for Bangladesh).
He is a friend of Rubel Talukder (Bashkhali) who managed Dishari Camp when we held our first Leadership Camp there in 2013. Matthew saw Rubel at a conference in Singapore. He started using Rubel to help get our work in Chittagong started. Matthew needed to replace Joydeb who had left Dinajpur earlier in 2018. Matthew said, “Help me find someone.”
Meanwhile, Mohesh was unsettled in his work in the far north of the country. The church committee was not happy that Mohesh preached whatever he saw in the Bible as the “whole counsel of God.” He felt they wanted to limit it to “tickle itching ears.” Somehow his frustration and the opportunity at BMW in Dinajpur met in a conversation with Rubel. He called Matthew up right away. Then he took a whole day bus trip in August to get to Dhaka for the interview. Matthew was meeting with Satish, Premanondo, Sanjoy and Polash. He told them it was their responsibility to interview Mohesh and recommend whether to hire him or not. They were very nervous but did conduct the interview and recommend his hire. (This is just one more way Matthew is discipling those under him.) He started in September and moved his family to Birganj. He has recovered some lapsed groups and formed 7 new groups in his first two months. He has visited many areas and made many contacts who reported it to Matthew. (Due to the efficiency of the “bamboo telegraph,” now enhanced by mobile phones, there are no secrets in Bangladesh.)

After my sharing John 5:24 and 1 Peter 3:18, I tried to explain them properly. At the end of our conversation I told her, “Jesus came to this earth only for us so that we can get forgiveness of our sin from our God, but if we want to get eternal life then we must accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior and believe on Him. Only through faith on Jesus we can go to heaven.” Pray for her so that she can get eternal life through believe in Jesus.
August 9, 2020–Sarda (70, Hindu) is my grandmother. I asked her, “How can we get forgiveness from our sin?” She answered, “We can get forgiveness from our sin when we can please Him.” Then I shared 1 John 1:9 and after sharing I asked how we could go to heaven. They were saying through worshipping God we can go to heaven. After that I shared John 3:16 and 14:6 and tried to share in detail about God’s plan about Jesus. Pray for her so that the Holy Spirit can change her mind and heart.
August 9, 2020–Gita (45, Hindu) is my aunty. I asked her, “How can we get forgiveness from our sin?” She answered, “We can get forgiveness from our sin when we will please Him.” Then I shared 1 John 1:9 and after sharing I asked how we could go to heaven. They were saying through worship God we can go in heaven. After I shared John 3:16 and 14:6 and tried to share in details about God’s plan about Jesus. Pray for her so that the Holy Spirit can change her mind and heart.
August 9, 2020–Aroti (40, Hindu) is my aunty. I asked her, “how can we get forgiveness from our sin?” She answered, “We can get forgiveness for our sin from our God when we can please Him.” Then I shared 1 John 1:9 and after sharing I asked how we could go to heaven. They were saying through worshiping God we can go to heaven. After my sharing about John 3:16 and 14:6 and tried to share in detail about God’s plan about Jesus. Pray for her so that we can give thanks for her life.
August 6, 2020–Azijur (55, Muslim) is an auto driver and I knew him before. I asked him how we could go to heaven. He said, “By Salat (prayer), Fasting, Jakat (charity) and living with the truth.” Then I shared Romans 3:23 and John 14:6 and I tried to explain it clearly. After that I asked him if we could find such a person who was not doing any sin? He said,” Yes.” I started share Romans 3:23 once again and explained it with more details. Then he understood that everyone is sinner in this world and he also got to know that we can’t go in heaven with our good deeds. But he tried to show something from Quran and Hadith. Pray for him so that he can understand who our true God is.
July 12, 2020–What I shared was a totally unknown topic for this group of Mulisms and Hindus. Ondha Rani, (70), Hormuni Rani (45) Enu Bala (48), Baburam (70), Shobita Ray (35), Batashi Ray (70), and Md Badal Islam (52). According to their beliefs I shared with them. They asked what salvation was and how they could get salvation through Jesus and why Jesus came on this earth. They didn’t know about these things. Pray for them as what they have learned through my teaching could bring them into the light of God. Pray they will understand who is our true God.
July 5, 2020–Ministry: I want to give thanks to God as He has given me 200 students in Birgonj area. Also, He has given me opportunity to contact 75% of my students last month. Also give thanks to God that my students are responding properly about taking class over the phone. Though they don’t want to give time in talking too long, they are doing their course materials regularly. Please keep my students in your prayer as they are living in fear because of this pandemic. Please pray for them so they can learn to be dependent on God.
I want to give thanks to God for my two disciples Subas Mardi and Francis. I was able to talk to them several times this month about devotions, assurance of salvation, faith and love of God. Both of their responses and interest is in a great level, but Francis seems to be a little weak in faith. Please pray for him that his interest and faith may grow stronger with the help Holy Spirit.
This month I have shared Bridge illustration with four persons. Batasi Pahan and Robin Pahan are Christian. Panda Murmum and Goroti Rani Ray are Hindu. When I asked them about salvation, they said they don’t know anything about salvation. I tried to share how we can get salvation and who can give us salvation. So please pray for them that they can understand and can have faith on Jesus Christ as their savior.
Personal: I would like to give thanks to God that He has kept my family healthy in this crisis. Please pray for my two children Merry and Munni as they are weak in studies.
June 16, 2020–I shared about salvation and what Bible says about salvation with Goroti (age 38). She was thinking if I don’t love people and God, I will never get the chance to go to Heaven. But my teaching made her thinks again about salvation.
June 14, 2020–I asked Batashi (age 45) so many questions about salvation. She replied she got to know about salvation through my teaching. She can get salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as her personal savior and He is the only way to get eternal life. Today I cleared the concept about assurance of salvation to her.
June 14, 2020–Through my teaching, Panda (age 42) got to know that good deeds can’t give permission to go to Heaven. Today he understood that no one in world lived righteous except Jesus and He died for our sin. Romans 3:23, 6:23 is giving a clear concept about salvation.
June 14, 2020–I asked so many questions of Robin (age 50) about salvation. But now he knows about salvation through my teaching. He can get salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal savior and He is the only way to get eternal life. Today I cleared the concept about assurance of salvation to him.
April 20, 2020–Ministry: Pray for my ministry area as all kinds of ministry work is stopped. Many people are not getting the good news of God because of the lockdown situation. I was able to reach 85% of my students this month over the phone, but the 15% are still unreached as they don’t have any contact numbers, or they don’t have any plan because of their monetary issue. So, please pray for those 15% students so that they won’t become discouraged but continue their study. Pray for my team leaders so that they may reach them and encourage them and help them. I am communicating with the team leaders on a regular basis.
I am also discipling my two disciples Francis Hansda and Subash Mardi. I taught them about the assurance of salvation, and they have the assurance now. Pray that they now can pass their assurance to their friends and also pray that they can select their own disciple.
Please pray for my father, he is a strong Hindu, honorable person in his area. I have shared with him about eternal security with some Bible verses like Romans 1:12, 3:23, 6:23, 1 John 1:9, 5:13. I also tried to encourage him through this crisis by 1 Chronicles 7:14. I explained to him that we all have to die, maybe from Corona Virus, or somehow, but where we will go after our death? He understood what I explained to him, but he hardened his heart and still he believes that he can confirm his eternal security by all his good deeds. So, pray please for my father so that God may soften his hardness. He feels like if we change our religion we must go to hell.
February 17, 2020–I am going from the Chabagan training directly to my father’s house to present the Bridge illustration of salvation. His name is Borendra Nath Roy. Pray for his heart to be open to the Gospel. Also, pray for his health as he has high blood pressure and often gets sick. He is 70 years old now. I have not directly shared the Gospel with him before. 18 years ago, when I accepted Christ, he was very angry. Sometimes he accepts me and sometimes he is angry at me for changing my religion.
Keep praying for my twin girls Blessy Mary and Noyomi Munni (7 years old). Both are in first grade. They have only minor improvements from the speech problems (February 15, 2019 request).
Pray for me with Mukti. She is 28 and is managing the house without me when I am gone (which is a lot, sometimes I go 3 hours one way by bus). She has to be strong and brave.
My goal for my area is 200 students with 150 getting certificates. We have 26 groups in my area. Pray for me to lead my disciples Francis Hasda and Subash Mardi. I keep in touch with them by phone because they live far away, but they come to the monthly volunteer meeting where we work on devotions and the Bridge Illustration.
December 11, 2019–A student named Sweety Hansda from the Rongaon team. She had surgery recently. She is still sick and admitted to Dinajpur Medical College.
I am taking preparation for graduation. We didn’t find the venue for graduation yet. Some venue is insecure, some are very expensive, and some are very small. So, please pray that God helps me to find out an appropriate place for our graduation venue. Around 80% of students have finished their final exams. Pray that the rest of the students will complete the exam soon. Pray for our volunteer team so that they can do a good job in the Graduation program. For the first time, I am leading a separate graduation program by myself. So, please pray for me so that I could give my best to have a successful program.
I shared the gospel with 4 people this month. Monisha, Priyanka, Priyanka and Josthi Roy. May God talk to their hearts.
November 22, 2019–Josthi (age 16) said I never knew that we are sinners. Now he knows that. After that I shared with him about salvation and who Jesus is and why He came to this world, but he still thinks that he will only go to heaven by doing good. He also confessed that we should love Jesus because he died for our sins. Please pray for Josthi.
November 22, 2019–Monisha (age 18) thinks that if she praises and worships Sri Krisna, she will go heaven and she has to do good works as well. I sketched her a Bridge illustration, and she said that she was on the left. When I told her that Jesus died for her sins, she said she will find first why Jesus has died. Please pray for her.
November 12, 2019–Second talk–Priyanka Roy(age 15) said, “This is the first time I understood that I am a sinner through Bridge illustration and I never ever had thought about it.” I asked her, “Have you ever heard about Christianity?” She said “never.” So, I asked her, “Is there any way to go heaven in your religion?” She said, “yes, if we praise Vogoban (God), we will go heaven.” I asked again, “Do you know that we all are sinners?” She said, “yes.” So, I shared about Jesus and how He died and why He died for us. But Priyanka told me that she will find first why he died.
November 12, 2019–First talk–It was nice and challenging conversation with Priyanka (age 15). At first, I asked her do you know who is the foundation of Christian religion. She said yes, he is Jesus. Then I shared why Jesus came to this world and why He died on the cross. Priyanka said we should love Jesus because Jesus died for me. In her past she believes that through Sri Krisna she will go heaven but after hearing Jesus loves now, she believes Jesus is the only way. Please pray for Priyanka.
November 8, 2019–I am having great difficulties with my father. He has given me four months to get back to my previous life otherwise he is going to cut me off from his everything. My father is still unbeliever. Please pray for him as well as me to overcome this situation.
