1. A. What has been your past involvement with BMW and B.why are you interested in serving in this way?
A. I was the activity planner for one summer at the Bangla Camp in Pennsylvania. My husband and I pray for BMW daily. I just started praying for the Bangla staff daily; praying for 5 each day. We have financially supported BMW for quite a few years.
B. I believe this is a work of God in obedience to the Great Commission. I believe God is working through BMW to fulfill His purposes for Bangladesh and in the individual lives of the Bengali’s, giving them truth, hope, light and love. The end of this is the expansion of the Kingdom of God and the Father being glorified. I would consider it a privilege to be a part of this work.
2. Testimony of A. Christian Salvation and B. Current Faith Walk:
A. I grew up in a Christian home, reading Bible stories, going to church, and hearing dynamic speakers. But I still did not know how to receive salvation including whether or not I could be certain about it. I started my search while in high school. God knew who he created me to be and the verse John 10:10b kept coming into my mind, “I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” Abundant living sounded good to me. This encouraged me to continue my search. But I was a fun-loving, invincible teen, and I did not want or need just a ‘pie in the sky’ religion. That changed abruptly one day when I walked into my 11th grade English class. We had to write an impromptu on what we would do if today was the last day on Earth. I wrote about talking to a pastor to find out how to get to heaven and that I would pray the rest of the day. All of a sudden a ‘pie in the sky’ religion is what I wanted and needed. At some point I found a salvation tract, read it, and prayed the sinner’s prayer at the end. I did not feel anything, and I did not have anyone to assure me that Jesus did hear my prayer, so I continued my search. I found another tract about the Holy Spirit. I prayed the prayer to be filled with the Spirit. The following year God reminded me of many times during my childhood when He was close to me and revealing Himself to me. For example when I was about 9 years old a neighbor invited us to a revival. The verse they spoke for the invitation touched my heart. It was Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come into him and dine with him and he with me.” Although, I did not go forward, I still remember those inviting words of Jesus and I did want Him in my heart. I also remember gazing at a nativity scene and knowing God had really sent his Son for us. Those were just a few examples of what was going on after I invited the Holy Spirit into my life. Later when I ran across the verse, John 14:26, it all made sense. “the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.” He was bringing all things to my remembrance. I began studying the Bible and found the verses in I John 5:11-13 “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know you have eternal life.” That was music to my soul. Now I knew, from his Word, how to receive eternal life and that it was not fleeting. I got together with other solid Christians and we began meeting together and going to hear many gifted Bible teachers in the area. I went to college (MSU) the following year where God continued to put wonderful Christians and Christian groups in my path. I developed wonderful friendships and was developing a relationship with Jesus. God has continued to be faithful, blessing me with a believing family and friends who also have been a great source of encouragement and fellowship in my journey.
B. Truthfully, the past 3 years have been difficult. I look back and still do not understand the career path my life took. His ways are not our ways. But there are many good things that have gone on and I am very grateful. Currently, I am retired and have time to read, pray, and spend with my grandkids. I want to re-memorize verses that I had memorized years ago and also add ones that are speaking to my heart now. I have started to do this, but I think I need a partner to help me see this through. I have been journaling and have been reading “A Closer Walk” by Catherine Marshall which has been a helpful inspiration in the journaling process. I have read, “The God You Can Know” by Dan De Haan, and am going through a study book by Charles Stanley, Listening to God (Learn to Hear Him thru His Word). My desire is to know God, as Moses stated,” Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight….”
14 And He(God) said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:13 &14 I want to “Come, Take his yoke, and learn” as stated in Matthew 11:28-30, also resulting in resting in Him.
I have been reading about Billy Graham’s life and am convicted by his humility, wanting only Jesus to get the glory.
3. Relevant Experience and/or Employment:
I was the co-chair of the ProLife Club at Ladywood High School for a number of years. We went to March for Life annually. Also, every year we had a Baby Shower to get baby items for crisis pregnancy centers and to inform the students about abortion and the needs of mothers and babies.
I was the monitor of the Student Council at Brother Rice H.S. and Ladywood H.S.
…..I taught HS Science for 19 years. I also taught Health/PE for about 5 years. (I do not know what relevance these may have, but I thought I add them.)
4. Areas of Expertise/contribution you can invest?
I do not have specific talents or training for this ministry.
I can pray and ask others to pray. I would like to participate in a current prayer force, then we could form one on this side of the state.
I would be willing to help raise funds, but I feel I would need guidance and materials.
I am an amateur calligrapher and would be happy to use that in any helpful/encouraging way.
I am willing to assist and support others in projects and activities.
5. Other volunteer or leadership commitments:
I have taught kindergarten Sunday School for about 30 years and am still doing that.
